United Pilots Intend Full Compliance

Chicago, Ill., November 18, 2008--The United Master Executive Council of the Air Line Pilots Association has been advised that Federal Court Judge Joan Lefkow plans to issue a preliminary injunction against ALPA in the case of UAL v. ALPA.

The Court has issued a set of findings but has not yet issued an injunction. Nonetheless, ALPA has already advised the United pilots that it remains essential not to engage in any form of economic action involving United Airlines. ALPA will have no further comment at this time, except to say that ALPA, the United Master Executive Council and the United pilots will comply fully with the Court’s Order when it is issued.

Consumerist: United Adds $800 In Fees To $560 Trip, Loses Customer For Life

We have a feeling this is going to happen with increasing frequency as airlines continue to bleed once-loyal customers for extra revenue: Greg Dean, the cartoonist behind Real Life Comics, has had enough of United gouging him. First it was the second checked bag fee, then the first checked bag fee. Then they doubled the pet-in-cabin fee to $175 each way, which works out to more than the cost of a human round-trip ticket.

And let's not forget the exorbitant booking fee for using miles for one of our tickets. The actual FLIGHT was only $280 round trip per ticket, but with the booking fee TO USE THE MILES TO PURCHASE A TICKET, we wound up paying over $500.

When Dean tried to convert the two tickets into travel vouchers, the airline charged him another $300. And that, readers, is when the airline killed off one of their better customer relationships.

For a trip that requires two roundtrip tickets priced at $280 each, or $560 before taxes, United managed to tack on over $800 in additional fees:...

Airline Quality Continues Three Year Decline- United Has Most Customer Complaints

Each year, the AQR, or Airline Quality Rating, helps sort out the difference in airline quality for business, the public, and the news media. AQR reports are based on United States Department of Transportation statistics.

In recently reported statistics, United was in dead last place for customer complaints, with 2.1 complaints registered per 100,000 passengers. The leader in this category was Southwest, with .30 complaints per 100,000 passengers.

In summary, United's customer complaint record was 7 times worse than Southwest. Yet the Glenn Tilton administration continues to pile on new passenger fees and unfriendly policies, reduce service and disenfrancise employees.
